EXPERTISE
Partnering to design and deliver Pennsylvania’s largest and most advanced Emergency Department
With this addition of 130,000 square feet, Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) Cedar Crest Hospital’s emergency department became one of the largest in the country. Completed in 2021, the emergency department expansion adds 96 exam rooms and 64 observation beds in the adult ED, and 24 exam rooms and 14 observation beds in the pediatric emergency services department.
The project vision centered on enriching the patient experience. Each of ERDMAN’s design touches was instituted with an eye toward comfort, convenience, and safety. Spacious waiting areas provide ample room and are flooded with natural light. A highly efficient operational model enhances speed to care, and includes amenities such as a food court, on-site imaging, diagnostics, and pharmacy services. Large observational units offer enhanced care and flexibility, and multiple negative pressure airflow rooms and enhanced air circulation support infection control.
The pediatric emergency services department is designed specifically for children and their families, and doubles LVHN’s capacity to care for kids. It is the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the region qualified in pediatric trauma.
